The kings defeated the champion of Serbia! Real Madrid got the drama with Mega
The junior selection of KK Real Beograd continues to record fantastic victories this season. After this year’s triumphs over Red Star and Partizan, the club headed by the legendary Milan Gurović also defeated Mega.
Mega, the current champion of Serbia and one of the clubs with the best youth academy in Europe, entered the duel as a favorite on the 20th. round of the Junior League.
However, the popular Kraljevi proved that paper is one thing and parquet is another. And that there are no untouchables for them! They scalped the defending champion and won one of the biggest victories in their history – 69:68.
They got to the celebration after a huge turnaround, as they managed to make up for minus 18 from the first half. With a fantastic defense in the second part – they reduced Mega to only eight points given in the third quarter – and smart play in the attack, they gradually reduced the gap. And then, with Dimitrije Kovačević’s points in the last moments, they dealt the final blow to their rival.
And all this before the eyes of numerous famous faces – Serbian basketball legends Milan Gurović and Milenko Topić, as well as the former captain of FK Crvena zvezda Slavoljub Đorđević.
Real’s victory gains additional significance if it is known that coach Vuk Petrović was deprived of the help of two of his best players – Tadija Stevanović and Simon Majok.
In their absence, the best was the aforementioned Kovačević. The super-talented wing center recorded another in a series of double-double performances – 15 points, 12 rebounds, with 5 assists.
Jovan Ićitović had 14 points and 9 rebounds, Aleksa Čarapa recorded 16 points, and the fighting Aleksa Sekulović made a huge contribution from the second plan with 12 points.
The triumph over Mega is another indicator of fantastic work in KK Real Beograd and the entire Gurović Academy.
The leaders, Jovan Obradović and Milan Gurović, managed to raise their project to the top of Serbian basketball in the younger categories in just three years since its establishment.
